Computers for change

Recent funding meant we were able to equip The Barut Youth Development and Sports Centre with laptops, a printer/ photocopier and internet access.
Here are a few reasons why we believe computers are vital to international development in rural areas;

1. Computer training is now a compulsory element of the government curriculum
2. Nakuru is the fourth fastest growing city in Africa. The town centre is expanding everyday, and whilst we are 7km away from the hussle and bussle, it is very fast approaching. Meaning that it wont be long before Barut is launched into the digital age.
3. Lack of employment is one of the many challenges that face young people in rural areas. Equipping them with computer skills gives them an extra edge on their CV and thus makes them far more employable.
4. Internet access is a huge part of international development, just being able to research new ideas, see how others do things is a huge asset to the improvement of our trainees education.
5. communication skills, improvement of written and spoken english and kiswahili
6. We are able to open up the centre and offer computer classes to the wider community
7. the computer training classes can be used to generate income, and contribute to the operational running costs of the centre, pushing us that little step close to sustainability.
8. Our staff can record operational budgets and reports on computer programmes, making the centre run far more efficiently and assisting our monitoring and evaluation.
