Drawings become reality

Drawings become reality

The Barut Youth Development and Sports Centre Architect, Louise Scannell tells of how it feels to see the teams drawings become a reality.
It was a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the design of the Barut Development Centre. From discussing with Holly and the team their aims for the centre, to researching successful precedent projects we managed to develop a design that would be efficient and buildable in phases.

Following receiving the necessary permissions from the local government the project was handed over to the Kenyan team to take through to construction. It was very exciting to see the progress of the construction through regular photographic updates from the project manager. The construction work went quickly, and the school was opened in time for the new school year. It was hugely exciting seeing photos of the first students attending the centre for their first lessons, and wonderful to see the school being used for wider community events.
Hopefully as further funds are raised, we will see the centre grow and further phases completed, so that even more of the community can benefit from the centre.
