The rugby team was an idea thrown at us by Dan Besley. We were thinking about ways of raising money, reaching a wider audience whilst maintaining our element of fun. We decided that with the popularity of rugby in Kenya and the element of sport involved with our next project (The Barut Development and Sports Centre) that the idea was sure to be successful.

Dan roped in keen rugby players of varied ability including Matt Noble (Dorking RFC and Surrey) Juan Diaz Cat (Uruguay U21) Ben Thomas (Canterbury RFC) and Tom Corbett (England Collages) and we called up friends family and colleagues. A match was arranged against the Law Society/OC Barbarians.

With rugby shirts printed (kindly sponsored by 'My Crew' and Demountford Estates ) they boys definitely looked the part and on the day they played the part too! Final score RTRK RFC 57 / 29 Law Society/OC Barbarians.

Supporters really 'got into' the game yelling from the sidelines while girls swooned over the players... If there was ever a reason to set up a charity this was it to have your own rugby team (only joking!!)

The match was a great fun day for all with a barbecue cupcakes and beer (something for everyone). Not only was it a great day but we won too!!

RTRK RFC has been formally invited to compete in the second largest 10-aside tournament in Kenya. We hope to be able to fly players to compete in this tournament as well as volunteer their time to train children in the local community and to source great talent.

Future fixtures involve a joint match against the wooden spoon (the top rugby charity) a fixture against SKY Rugby entrance into all the top sevens tournaments and a rugby tour of Kenya in 2013.

The support of professional rugby players and clubs would be a great help in making this a reality. Kit sponsorship is a great way to play a vital role in RTRK RFC and the future of rugby in Kenya.

Thank you to our official Team sponsors.
